Main Responsibilities

  • Assist in translating system requirements into embedded system specifications
  • Assess technical feasibility and contribute to technical concepts
  • Establish embedded hardware and firmware architecture
  • Set up the embedded development environment
  • Utilize Agile and CI/CD principles for quality and performance
  • Design embedded systems and develop firmware
  • Perform functional analysis and create system designs
  • Develop automated and manual tests for verification of embedded systems
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ISO62304, ISO60601, ISO14971)
  • Maintain traceability between requirements and tests
  • Create verification plans for electronics and firmware
  • Contribute to configuration management and technical/design/milestone reviews
  • Generate intellectual property
  • Understand DFR/DFM/DFT (Design for Reliability, Design for Manufacturing and Design for Test), including concept engineering, modeling, analysis, sensitivity, and stress analysis
  • Work intensively with Quality, Regulatory, Clinical and Project Management on the formal product development processes, and perform design and phase reviews

  • Follow change request processes

Core Skills/experience

  • At least 5 years of industry experience, ideally in regulated environments like (implantable) medical devices or in another highly regulated environment (e.g., defense, aeronautics, automotive)
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline e.g., computer science
  • Strong engineering background, e.g., electronics, software (embedded), mechatronics, computer science
  • Proficiency in programming languages like C, C++, Python, and VHDL
  • Knowledge of electronic simulation and design tools such as Cadence, PSPice, and Altium
  • Experience with agile processes, continuous development, integration, and test automation
  • Understanding of communication protocols like I2C, SPI, and UART
  • Ability to identify areas for improvement and develop execution plans
  • Familiarity with software build and test infrastructures like Jenkins, GIT, and Cucumber
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools e.g. Jira
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work in diverse teams
  • Flexible, service-minded, analytical, reliable, pragmatic, and results-driven
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
